|
The next MacMan workshop
will take place in Laufen from 17th-20th Januaury 2005 with
some 70 participants attending, comprising of EU
project partners, an advisory board made up of entomology experts and
associated partners from other European countries forming a consortium to
discuss and exploit Maculinea research. Presentations will
be held on numerous scientific issues underpinning Maculinea
research.

Mid-term MACMAN Meeting JAN 2004 |
|
A mid-term MacMan conference was
organised with close co-operation from the UFZ, HNHM, and DUFS. This
conference held in Budapest (19th - 23rd January) enabled project partners
to review progress and check the quality of results. Various users of the
project's results (including other scientists, conservation managers, and
EIA specialists), were invited to the conference.

Modelling Workshop APRIL 2003 |
| |
A workshop, which focused
on modelling projects within MacMan, took place from 31.03- 04.04.03 in
Fabrikschleichach (UWUERZ) and acted as a platform to exchange information
and ideas on which hypotheses could be tested in a modelling context.
These discussions markedly contributed to deciding which genetic aspects,
evolutionary aspects (e.g. local adaptation, dispersal strategy) and
landscape variables to incorporate into future models. |

Maculinea Butterfly Site Management/ Ant Identification Workshop, May
2003 |
| |
A workshop on Maculinea-site
management and ant identification took place at the
Bavarian Academy for
Nature Conservation (ANL) from 21.05. - 24.05.03 in Laufen,
Germany. Preliminary results were discussed and management tools and
recommendations explored. Part of the workshop was designed as a host ant
identification workshop led by the top Myrmica ant taxonomists
Olexandr Radchenko (PAS, Poland) and Graham Elmes (NERC, UK). A central
theme of the workshop was how to manage grasslands for maximum
biodiversity within Maculinea systems in different parts of Europe.
Possibilities were explored on how to make the scientific results useful
as tools for the user community (planners, land managers etc.) using the
results of all WPs to test the applicability of tools and model results in
practical conservation and management. |
